The City Council proclaimed February 11, 2024, as “Irvine 2/11 Marine Battalion Day.” We recognized Captain Mark Gaido, First Sergeant Chris LeCureux, and Irvine 2/11 Committee President Tina Anderson, for their ongoing support for our military families. The battalion was officially adopted by the City in 2007. Through this partnership, the committee provides valuable programs and financial support to the 2/11 marines and their families. The Irvine 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee is a volunteer-coordinated organization serving as a liaison between the Irvine community and the marines. Our Chief of Police, Michael Kent, presented an update on the Irvine Police Department’s new Cultural Immersion Sabbatical Program! This two-week long program allows officers to travel to a different country and live with a host family. The experience provides a unique opportunity to immerse in a new community’s traditions, language, and faith. Experiencing diverse cultures is vital to connecting and understanding those they serve and protect. Great Park is hosting a pop-up workshop to educate the community about root crops, leafy greens, and other veggies that succeed in this season’s colder temperatures. Don’t let the winter season stop you from farming your crops. Learn about the art of cold-framing to harvest your very own fresh vegetables and also about how to turn kitchen scraps into your garden’s nourishment. Sign up and visit the Great Park Farm + Food Lab on January 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. To register for this event on Your Irvine, click here.
